Getting on the TomKat bandwagon...sort of.

I was reading the (UK )newspapers this morning when I came across an article re: TomKat.
The point in question was why the wedding photograph shows him taller then Ms Holmes, when in reality she towers over him by 2 inches.

To Quote the article:

Cruise may have reached the dizzying stratosphere of Hollywood's A-list and the inner circle of Scientology (which believes that humans are descendants of aliens known as Thetans) but he clearly still has little-big-man hang-ups about his height.

Nor is he alone. In an industry where leading men are expected to conform to society's expectations of desirability, some vertically challenged actors go to great lengths to disguise their shortcomings.

Alan Ladd, a diminutive 5ft 4in, sometimes had to clamber on to an orange box to kiss his leading ladies or take a swipe at his enemies. In Boy on a Dolphin, Sophia Loren was forced to stand in a hole to play opposite him. James Cagney was 5ft 5in, but cultivated a tough-guy image. And although about 5ft 8in, Humphrey Bogart was often mocked for his height.

It's easier for character actors to carve a niche for themselves: Danny DeVito (5ft), Dustin Hoffman (5ft 6in) and the late Dudley Moore (5ft 2 ½in) have all received critical acclaim. All three married glamorous, taller, women , a testimony, perhaps, to their personalities rather than physical stature.

But there's no doubt that, on an evolutionary level, women prefer tall men, as they associate height with superior genes. A survey by the Open University for the National Child Development Study has shown that short men will always lose out to taller rivals in love.

As a result, a man of average height (5ft 9in in the UK) is less likely to marry than a 6ft 1in man. Tall men also earn an average of 10 per cent more than their short counterparts, because height is associated with leadership.

On the plus side, however, men shorter than 5ft 6in are less likely to commit suicide, because they develop better psychological self-defence skills to compensate. In fact, it is often this carapace of self-confidence that can give a short man the drive and charisma to attract a trophy mate. Just look at Bernie Ecclestone (5ft 4in) or Rod Stewart (5ft 8in).

Indeed Stewart's fiancee, Penny Lancaster (6ft 1in), has been known to step off the kerb for paparazzi shots, just as Diana (5ft 10in) wore low-heeled shoes and slumped at the shoulders to make Prince Charles look taller than his 5ft 11in height (she ditched the flatties as the marriage disintegrated).

But can a match between a tall woman and her shorter celebrity spouse ever last the distance? Cruise's ex-wife, Nicole Kidman (5ft 10in), famously remarked in the wake of their divorce: "At least I can wear high heels now." That said, she is now married to country singer Keith Urban, who claims to be 5ft 8in and is currently in rehab, so there's a hidden price to be paid for whipping on those Jimmy Choos again.

Whether there will be a hidden price in TomKat's Scientology vows in which Cruise promised Holmes"dresses, food and perhaps even a cat", while she promised to keep him content perhaps only the Thetans can tell.

But if domestic harmony is jeopardised by height, the elegant Mrs Cruise could soon give new meaning to the concept of an Armani trench.

I was taller then my first boyfriend, I hated it. We were teenagers and of course you are self-concious then anyway but sometimes I felt that people thought he was my little brother or something. Of course now he is taller then me so I'm told.

My next BF was taller by about an inch and a half which was fine unless I wore heels then I just didn't feel right.
It's probably brainwashed into us by society and the media , the above quote being a perfect example of the lenghths Hollywood will go to to decive the public that the guy always has to be taller. To give the image that only big men can proctect you.

Which thinking about it is stupid.

But I have to say I do like being able to rest my head against a nice broad chest.

The things people do...

Last night we went out to dinner, as we drove past Best Buy I just happened to glance over and there were people camping out in their tents. Waiting for Playstation 3. Good God people get a life! does it really matter that much to have it first? Its friggin November.

Alas I have to say I am apathetic enough to just wait for the product after all the hype has died down. The only thing I have pre-ordered in my life was the Nirvana Box set and I just happened to be the very first person to buy it on the release day, not because I made the effort but because I had to walk past the store on my way to work.
I must admit to feeling a "special little feeling" when I left the store. I walked up the street beaming this daft smile and clutching my HMV carrier bag to my heart.
Of course I only ever played it all the way through once or twice and seeing as its been in England the past 2 years I have to say I havent missed it that much.

My Ex did go out once at midnight to get me one of the Harry Potter potter book on it's release as a surprise, that was quite exciting. But make the effort myself. No.

WP has become addicted to this silly little online game, Funny Farm, it's like a word association and its quite hard for those of us with few brain cells and crap spelling. I made a half hearted effort and got a few right but got fed up pretty quick.I mean to say, I hate poker so why would I know "Poker Stars" If you are going to have a go yourself a tip : Google comes in quite handy.

Still no word on the move, don't know whats happening other then they put biege carpet down not grey, so the guy doing all the jobs in there was a little pissed because he matched the kitchen floor tiles to grey.

I went upto Walgreens this morning I had it in my head that I needed at once Olays daily facials, so I got some and had a browse around at the cosmetics whilst I was there. I have been looking for a matt dark lip stain, I hate lipstick I am always aware of it being there when I am drinking, eating , kissing etc. Of course because I don't know the exact product I am looking for it makes it pretty hard to find. The Rimmel cosmetics were buy one get one free so I bought some lip liner and something called "Vinyl lip" lip gloss stuff. Of course the second I got home I had to try it out. I have to stay its still on I still feel "sticky" though.
I think wp likes me to wear it so I don't kiss him as much- he always has an ulterior motive that man!
I also added to my collection of hair clips, I got a pack of three large grips ( you know the ones that sort of snap shut).

Ok I am sure I have bored you all to death with my mindless drivel. have a great weekend !

The good ole days...

As a few of you will know I have been feeling a tad homesick and lonely of late.

Tonight I was thinking about home and some childhood haunts so I thought I would look on the net for some pics to share [boring post]
As a child I grew up in Boughton "Boughton is a suburb of Chester located a mile to the east of the city on a bend in the River Dee. Boughton has a long history stretching back into Roman times."

We lived quite near the river, and of course kids are drawn to water so every summer most of the days would be spent at Sandy Lane. Along the riverside, there was a public (free) paddling pool that used to look huge but in reality was tiny.
of course once you hit 12 or so you wouldn't be seen dead at Sandy Lane unless it was to hang out with your friends. Paddling pool Phhft we went in the river! Thinking about how dirty the water is in the river now makes me feel queasy to think I used to swim in it. In fact the river is that shallow at the point that you could actually walk across to the other side. The water would reach your bottom lip at most.

The picture above is of the little jetty at Sandy Lane. Come the summer there would be a man there every weekend and bank holiday. He owned a little ferry boat and would for 10pence (20 cents) ferry you across the river to the meadows the other side. People would picnic on them etc.
I have many many memories of Sandy Lane from:

Boyfriends: I met a with a guy (Rob) down there. Turned out later that we had met up with a local "naughty boys" home excursion. Did that bother us ? No, I went out with Rob for about a week, he dumped me went out with my friend Jackie and I moved onto Darren, also from the home.

Car crashes: My Ex allowed me to drive his car in the car park at Sandy Lane, long story short, he shouted, I panicked and reversed into a tree. He did laugh it off despite the fact that his boot would never quite shut the same again....
The funny thing was the trees were spaced out a lot, you could easily drive between the trees but no I had to drive into the tree.

Passes: My first serious boyfriend Allan, his step dad made a pass at me at Sandy Lane. He was driving me home one night(alone) he stopped the car unzipped his pants and invited me to ..Well you can guess the rest. Of course I declined in the nicest possible way. I told Allan the next day at school, we split up not long after that....

Years later I bumped into Allans mum she told me she had divorced the perv, Seems she had found out he had tried the same thing with her daughters and she asked me flat out had he tried anything with me.

When I started this post I hadn't even thought about that incident, I just wanted to post happy memories at the riverside. Oh well...

If anyone wants to look up Boughton here is a page, its really hard to read (black text on a dark background) I have written to the webmaster to suggest they change it ;)
Who knows if you are lucky (lol) I may give a few more teen memorys out soon....
